March 2008 - Amy Ruth’s located in Harlem, New York and is a great place for a Southern style breakfast. Not so busy after the morning rush, ample parking is available just south of the restaurant near the north end of Central Park. The interior looks and feels like a diner and the walls are adorned with pictures of famous celebrities who have frequented the building. Bill Clinton’s picture is just one of the familiar faces on the wall. The menu is fun to read as most dishes are named after famous political or cultural icons. For my first meal of the day I chose the Reverend Al Sharpton. It was a fried quarter chicken atop a waffle that came supplied with butter and maple syrup. The combination was fantastic if somewhat unusual. It was one of the best breakfasts I had ever had! My dinning partner chose French toast which they said tasted good but not great. Both mains and most items on the breakfast menu were priced under $10. Service was good. The atmosphere was fun and exciting, as it seemed to be the place to be even in the mornings just for a cup of coffee.
