August 2007 - This is no retro-theme diner. This place actually is lost in time. Go for the adventure. You can eat out just like your grandparents did.
When you find the Seaway Shopping Center in Ogdensburg, New York, look for a sign that says nothing more than “Restaurant...24 hours” that’s it. There is no name. If you’re in a Chinese food place, you’re two doors away.
With McDonalds and Burger King across the road, the Donut King diner is a good diversion. I’ve had haddock & fries on one visit and their reuben sandwich on another visit. My partners have experienced various items. The taste is not high quality but the experience is old school.
How old school? The staff still kills the flies on the wall with their towels. The indoor sign board includes treasures from the past such as: don’t order “just water.” “Purchase or leave.” The smoking section is easy to find because you pass through it before you enter the restaurant. Breakfast is served all day.
I’ll go back (in time) again and so should you. Just remember that it’s the experience, not the food.
