| "Nothing short of terrible" |

March 2007 - This place was nothing short of disgusting...we really couldn’t describe it in any other way. We arrived late at night, and the whole front was under construction, with dirt, and tarps all over the place, it was a muddy mess. Bill, the owner met us in his bare feet; sweat pants, and a t-shirt. The breakfast area where the breakfast was supposed to be served was their own kitchen...He then took us to the room (in his bare feet), which had a bad smell of mold, which was covered up by heavy floral scented glade. The bathroom smelled even worse. It was unbearable. We were tired and tried to settle in, but decided shortly, that there was no way we could stay there. We left, paid for 1 night out of 2, and stayed at the Comfort In in Saugerties. It was worth paying double to get out of there. Did I mention the hole in the wall right by the bed??? Save yourself the trouble and don't attempt to stay there

As the long time owner/operator of a popular B & B, I welcome constructive criticism from guests and believe in trying to make things right if ever there is a problem. In this business, there`s nothing more important than the B & B`s good name and reputation; our success is dependent on repeat business and maintaining good will, and excellence in word of mouth referrals.
"Anna" seems hell-bent on destroying my livelihood and reputation as a family B & B, and it warrants my public response in self defense. When their reservations were originally made by telephone, they were informed that the house was being renovated in certain sections with exterior construction and excavation as well as interior work. This is 'the country" and my B & B is also a 5 acre working ranch (with chickens, horses, peacocks and other farm as well as domestic animals); no one could possibly anticipate the weather with its melting snow and mud. Being a city person, maybe Anna couldn`t differentiate between the smell of the outdoors and their natural aromas with what she described as mold.
Anna`s guaranteed reservation was for two nights, Friday and Saturday. I expected them to arrive Friday evening; they called several times to change their time of arrival. Finally when it was very late they called again and said they would check in at 10am the following morning. Well they finally arrived at 9pm, obviously tired and stressed. I greeted them and then made dinner reservations for them. I don`t think these people have spent much time at B & B`s otherwise it would not be a shock to see that everyone eats together in a dining area, not the kitchen, unless she does not recogonize the difference. After waiting for them for a day and a 1/2 with them showing little regard for my time, I felt as I often do with people who have no consideration of someone else's time that they were rude and inconsiderate. The fact that I was changing out of my regular clothes into my night cloths after waiting for them, and then they show up with no call or announcement why she would find it strange that I was not dressed to receive them. Honestly I was expecting them not to show at all after waiting 13 hrs. that`s a bit much, and their behavior from the previous night. In order to keep peace I only charged them for one night although I stayed up and held the room for them for the two that they had guaranteed. It shows no good turn is ever acknowledged.
