July 2007 - Hostess sounded nice on the phone and photos on the website charming. House itself is in a great location, just across the street from a great cinema.
I stayed at the B&B for a week. My first hint that something was wrong was that the lock on the bedroom door was broken, and the owner showed no concern. I explained that, while I could prop the door closed with a chair at night, I had to leave many thousands of dollars worth of photoequipment in the room. Rather than offering me a safe place to keep my stuff, she replied that it was ok, because she was "there all the time" (all the time?).
The bed was comfortable, shower was fine and so were the first few breakfasts - hearty crepe and egg affairs. The owner was once agin was charming, and the other guests were wonderful. She rents out one of her lage rooms for parties, but the noise didn't last until too late.
The next day the toilet almost flooded. These things happen. I wasn't upset but when I informed her that it was about to overflow, she told me that it was my fault because I was "using too much paper" and that she wanted me to put it in the wastebasket!!
Speaking of watebaskets, I don't expect that much for $110 a night, but over the couse of the week, the owner never entered the room - not once emptied the overflowing wastebaskets , never provided fresh towels nor even pulled up the covers to the bed.
The couple across the hall had been coming there for years and said that she used to do all these things, but that things had really gone downhill, and that they were never coming back again. Nor will I.
I was there alone for the first 3 nights, and my boyfriend joined me for the remainder of the week. As we came down for our last breakfast before we hit the road, nothing was on the table. She explained that because it was "just us" that day, she didn't want to go through the "whole breakfast ritual", and that she "needed her morning"! To add insult to injury, she had told me the price would be less when I was alone than on those nights my boyfriend joined me. She used her broken English as an excuse to not honor that, and the conversation so exhausted me that I gave in and was just happy to go and eat breakfast in a restaurant!
