"The WORST"
2
by Johanna (from DC)
February 2007 - I stayed at the Columns on Clinton, and while the property was fairly livable, the experience was made practically unbearable by the vile manners of the owner.

When we arrived (we were later than she had been told by the booking company we would arrive, but this is travel--one does not always arrive at an exact time) she actually YELLED at us! She harangued us for 15 minutes, accusing us of having "ruined her entire day."

After this horrific outburst, she took us up to the room on the third floor, which was very small and had a shared bathroom in the hall with two other rooms. When we got to the room, she says in this offhand manner "oh, by the way, the heat isn't working." Are you kidding me? It was absolutely freezing--temperature in the low 20's and snowing. She says, oh here's an electric heater, as if she was being nice.

We plug in the heater, she goes downstairs, and then--the fuse blows, knocking out both the lights and the heater. We call her back up, and she basically blamed us for overloading the circuit. She unplugs one heater, flips the breaker, and we are now down to one heater about the size of a toaster. She goes downstairs again, and within a couple of minutes, the fuse blows again, plunging us into the cold and darkness. We call her back, and she accuses us of turning on more aplliacnce and blames the outage on us! We tell her we touched nothing, and she just glares at us and then accuses us of entering another room, and turning on THEIR heater! Needless to say, this was completely ridiculous.

Finally, the pathetic heater holds up the rest of the night and we huddle for warmth.

The next morning, we go down for breakfast, which was neither hot nor homemade, and she starts haranguing us and the other guests, who were equally taken aback, about her belief that she is "the only white woman fit to run for president in this country." I am completely serious--she actually said that. Then she announces that she would like to "go to Texas and personally throw all of the immigrants out of this country." At this point, I just got up and left.

We did not eat anymore breakfasts and this so-called "B&B" and we did everything to avoid this awful woman, who snapped at us every time she saw us. When we finally left the godforsaken place after three days, she actually accused us of stealing her books! I am not kidding.

This was without a doubt the worst hotel experience I have ever had, and it wasn't even cheap! I can't imagine a person more ill-suited to the B&B business than the owner of ths Columns on Clinton.
