May 2007 - A group of girls and myself just returned from Gruene, and a long weekend stay at Antoinette's Cottage.
A truly miserable experience. The Cottage, not Gruene. We rented the entire cottage; which means we got 3 rooms and the front porch. When we arrived, we were told that we couldn’t bring coolers inside, which we do understand, but it was delivered as if to a room full of 4 year olds.
The same thing happened when she discovered that 2 of the girls had mountain bikes stored in their room. These are pretty expensive bikes and a whole lot cleaner than the Cottage was. Again, this directive was delivered in an aggressive manner - "Not in the house."
We were accused of splashing something on the walls, she made up our beds and puttered around in the rooms on Saturday while we were still trying to get ready to go to the river. We never did get fresh towels; they disappeared and werent replaced.
There aren’t any dining room facilities available. You eat on the front porch. Along with the dog and 2-3 cats roaming around who aren’t shy about begging. And the proprietor.
Breakfast on Sunday didn’t show up until 10 am, not even coffee or juice.
When we left, she told us she was charging us damages for a pillowcase with bike tire marks on it, something on the walls and floor that she couldn’t clean up and dirty towels.
Don't go. Find somewhere else to stay. You will enjoy your weekend so much more
