March 2006 - If I had been alive in the 50s, a trip to this diner in Stowe would surely be a trip down memory lane. Quirky but fun, the Malt Shoppe is everything 50s - from the music playing to the old-fashioned soda fountain counter to the black and white checked theme and the mannequin in the corner decked out in a poodle skirt (yes, there is one!) And that isn't even mentioning the menu - from burgers, popcorn chicken and onion rings to sundaes, egg creams and lime rickey's, this is the kind of place adults can enjoy but which children are sure to love! And what is not to love - ice cream treats galore, old-style pink booths, Betty Boop collectibles, a fun, reasonably-priced menu and cool images of James Dean, Marilyn, even Martin Luther King, Jr.
