"good atmosphere, Southern food"

by Sam (from Haile, Florida)
November 2006 - The tavern, half-way down the hill from Montecello, was particularly inviting because it was a cold, wet, and windy day. The only menu is a buffet of Southern-style dinner, for $15. Every day has Southern-fried chicken and shredded pork barbeque, both of which are excellent. The salad, vegetables, and soup change from day to day. This day, the best of these was stewed tomatoes, which had sugar added, and crumbled biscuits to make it thick. The servers, in colonial-period dress, will bring seconds from the buffet. We didn't try the desserts.

The dining room has log cabin walls, a large stone wood-burning fireplace, and "family-style seating" at long wooden tables, so you may meet some interesting people.
