September 2007 - We were looking to eat at Grubstake & Co for dinner, having heard that they focus on local and organic ingredients. After discovering they don't serve dinner (at least this time of year?), we happened across Arrowleaf Bistro across the street and down a few paces. Man, what a great choice. The staff was friendly and the food delectable. The chef is an artist of flavors. For starters we had marjoram grilled prawns with aoli ($9). The shrimp were cooked perfectly, not rubbery at all. My grilled escolar with local organic grilled vegetables ($27) was the highlight. Accompanied by canneloni soup. My friend had duck confit gnocci ($18) which was bold and flavorful. For dessert we enjoyed the pumpkin cheesecake, made with local organic pumpkin. The menu also included dishes such as roasted chicken, pork chops, and steaks. The tab came to right at $100 for the two of us. Not bad at all for the excellent food and service, and certainly more tasty than the run-of-the-mill stuff served up at most of the places on this street. Highly recommended!
