"Seattle- a GREAT place to visit"
by Rob (from Gulf Breeze, fLORIDA)
August 2007 - I visited Seattle twice. Although the last reviewer made some good observations about the parking at the Space Needle, the one-way streets, the high costs, the slow paced people, etc., Seattle is still a great city. There are many great things about Seattle- the so-called "lazy" people are actually intelligent people, who choose to live life that way. There are many great restuarants, food from many cultures. There are clubs, art & museums, spend a day at the zoo, relax at the waterfront & shop Pike Market, or take a ferry ride, in this city. There is more than enough great things to see and do in this city.

Outside the city is some of the most spectacular scenery in America- The Puget Sound & San Juan Islands, great towns like Poulsbo, Port Townsend, Fairhaven, Levenworth, The Cascade Mountains, the beautiful farmlands with the colorful Tulips in May, Mt Baker, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, The rain forest in the Olympic Mountains. All you need is time.

The Seattle area is great for winter skiing, summer sailing, hiking, fishing, whale watching, kayacking, camping, or catching a concert, visiting the downtown Pike Place Market or local farmer's markets, visiting the county & state fairs, or just sightseeing or taking a country drive.

"The Most Disappointed Place to Visit"
by Steve (from Los Angeles)
December 2006 - I took my family coming to Seattle of Washington on the Christmas Day and looked for a nice and quiet Christmas getaway vacation. We stayed in Hotel 1000 in downtown of Seattle for two nights, and barely made through two days because of the bad weather, dump people around, the worst food that we could ever found and tasted.

Arriving at Seattle Int'l Airport in an early flight from Southern California at about 8:45 AM, and flight was fine and actually arrived earlier. Then we got our booked vehicle at the Airport and head to the hotel 1000. It was surprisingly quiet on the way to downtown, Seattle, it was the Chritmas Day, and it should be anyway, but it was quieter than expected, and it was the first impression of Seattle highway systems.

It did not take us to locate the hotel but the check-in time was pushed back because there was no room available, huh, the hotel was like a ghost building, and I seriously doubt if there was any guest in it the Christmas Eve. Anyway, we had to wait for about two hours, it was a bad start.

Then, we found this city was not what it should be, at lest what we read it about. When you think of Seattle, you think of Boeing and Microsoft, and the city of innovation and high tech, but it is not like that. Below is a list of things that were very disappointed and at least no reasons and they were not related to weather and the holiday time.

First, the chines foods were quite bad, probably the worst ever, and maybe the foods were made for people locally, but it was not for Chinese nor American. Can you imagine a sweety hot & sour soup in Chinese reestaurants? Basically, the foods were all sweety, very sweety, I mean sweet like sugar. If you like suger, this is the place for you.

Second, the Space Needle is a very lousy place specially on the ground. There is no parking space at all, a valet parking would cost you $11.00 for a ride up of about an hour. The Space Needle is handled like a shopping complex and no fun at all specially for kids of all age. There is indeed an outdoor kid place area around the Needle, but it was a rainy day and how kids could play in rain?

The downtown is horrible for parking and driving as well. One way road is everywhere, and most roads do not allow left turn at intersection, thus making it very difficult to drive around. Oh, by the way, hotel cost has a hidden charge in parking, which can cost you additional $25 to $30 per day and is equivalent to twice or three times as much as public/commercial parking.

Finally here comes to the people. The overall impression is that the people of Seattle area is quite lazy or easy-going, slow paced, they are slow and unbelievably slow paced compare to people in other big cities such as LA, Chicago, and so on.

A bottom line is that the Seattle is not place for me, and I do not like it at all. Bad gloomsy weather, bad foods, bad traffic, and lazy people.

Steve from Los Angeles.
