"Reservation not honored"
by J (from Washington)
July 2007 - Looking to go Whale Watching in the waters near the San Juan Islands, do not trust your reservation to Mystic Sea Charters. I made a reservation with them online two months in advance of my trip, on August 4, 2007: a day that was shown on their calendar as available. I received a call the next day to confirm my reservation and inform me of the launch time and the things I should bring for the trip. I spoke with their employees on several more occasions - to include one phone call which adjusted the trip time by an hour. Today, three weeks prior to the date I had reserved, I receive a phone call from Mystic Sea Charters informing me that they have booked another charter on the day that I reserved and asked if I would be willing move my trip to August 3 and if i were unwilling, I would need to make other arrangements. They at least went so far as to call their competitors (Island Adventures) and ensure there was room on their schedule that day, but I would need to make the actual arrangements and there would be no compensation for the inconvenience to me as the two companies are not related. I chose not to go with either and am looking forward to a trip with another company with launches off of Orcas Island. Long story short: Do NOT trust your reservation to Mystic Sea Charters.

Management Response:
by Monte
Mystic Sea Charters is committed to our customers. We did have a double booking on August 4th, 2007 and made several offers to rectify our mistake. We offered the customer in question to be our guest, at any other date, for a total price of $25 dollars for her party (The regular cost is $79 per person plus tax - a total price of $159.84). We also called other whale watch companies to see if there was room on their vessels for August 4th. When notified, the customer in question was very appreciative of our offers. She made no mention of being upset and thanked us for our efforts. It was not until notification of this web site did we learn of her dissatisfaction. Double bookings are NOT every day occurrences for our company. We express our deepest sympathies to this customer and have already taken measures to ensure this does not happen again.
